Aloha Fresh
June 25, 2007
Tired of all those endless sandwiches, pizzas and burgers joints? Well, finally there's some new food in town, and it comes all the way from Hawaii. After opening last September, 8 Island has become one of the first restaurants in Boulder to add some delicious cultural diversity to the local palate.
Focusing on the traditional Hawaiian plate lunch, all dishes consist of an entré (chicken, beef or seafood) and two sides. Those Hawaiian's love their carbs, usually combining entrees with white rice and macaroni salad. However, adapted for the health conscious Boulderite, 8 Island offers such substitutes as brown rice and mixed greens. If you're going for the authentic Hawaiian experience, head straight for the Pulehu Chicken ($6.50), Hale'iwa Mahi-Mahi ($8.00), or the Chicken Katsu ($7.00). The macaroni salad might possibly be the tastiest in existence, and the house dressing, served on mixed greens, is absolutely scrumptious (and healthy too)!
While eating here, you're practically marching to save the environment, since 8 Island is a Zero Waste facility! Thought plate lunches were only good in the afternoon? Well think again, because with all those large protein packed servings, we heard they make an excellent dinner too!
